This 6-module program aims to empower postsecondary educators. You will explore a range of technologies and pedagogical practices for effective online and technology-enabled teaching and learning.
Each module directly enhances your teaching toolkit, focusing on practical, applicable strategies. Modules include:
- Teacher for Learning: Learn to create learning activities that engage students deeply, drawing on research-based strategies.
- Experimenter: Embrace innovation in your teaching by experimenting with new tools and approaches that enhance student learning.
- Technologist: Confidently choose and apply technology solutions that tackle learning challenges and enhance educational experiences.
- Curator: Master the art of content curation to build rich, engaging and openly licensed course materials.
- Collaborator: Expand your professional learning network through collaboration tools.
- Scholar: Investigate and apply teaching strategies that improve learning outcomes, using your own courses as a research lab.
The estimated time to complete the program is 35 hours and the program is free for member institutions.
No prior experience in online teaching is required for this micro-credential. While the program is suitable for all postsecondary educators looking to enhance their skills, those new to teaching might consider beginning with the Online Teaching Fundamentals program. The Empowered Educator program is designed for a broad range of educational roles, not exclusively for current instructors or professors, allowing participants to leverage their professional experiences in various educational capacities.
Yes! We have built in opportunities for synchronous interactions through our live, weekly, optional discussion sessions. These will give you an opportunity to interact with your peers, clear doubts about any specific topic with your program facilitator or just share your learning journey.
Facilitated sessions will be held on Mondays via Zoom, starting January 20, 2025, and running until March 31, 2025. The facilitated sessions calendar and Zoom link will be available from the home program page in Brighspace.
Throughout the Empowered Educator program, you’ll work through six modules, engage in a range of activities in our Learning Management System. Exercises in the course include completing readings, interactive activities and assessments. You’ll be asked to create activities using a range of educational technologies. Successfully finishing all course components and submitting your activities results in earning the Empowered Educator Micro-credential, which recognizes your ability to enhance learning experiences with new technologies.
